The Dog Days of Summer begin today! The term comes from the Romans, who called the 6-8 hottest weeks of summer dog days. They believed that the Dog Star, Sirius, rising with the sun, added to its heat, so these days bear the combined heat of the Dog Star and the sun. Can you think of any other sayings we use and how they began?
